A man was shot early Monday morning following an encounter at a Spartanburg business, according to Art Littlejohn, with the Spartanburg Police Department.It happened around 12:45 a.m. at Midtown Bistro and Lounge on West Main Street, Littlejohn said.According to Littlejohn, when officers arrived they encountered a man who stated he was the shooter. The man placed his hands in the air and surrendered to police. The man stated that he was in possession of both handguns; his own and that of the individual who was shot, Littlejohn said.According to Littlejohn, Natarius Leking Dawkins said that he shot Christopher Antonio Swindler after being involved in a brief encounter with Swindler inside of the business.Dawkins told police that Swindler pointed a handgun at him during the confrontation, Littlejohn said.According to Littlejohn, Dawkins told police he was able to retrieve his own handgun prior to being shot by Swindler. Both individuals are known to each other and have had prior encounters, Littlejohn said.According to Littlejohn, Swindler was transported to the hospital by someone on scene in their privately owned vehicle to be treated for his injuries. His condition is unknown.Dawkins was detained and transported to the Spartanburg Police Department for questioning and at this time no charges have been filed, Littlejohn said.
