HAMMOND, La. – Thomas Nedow and Terrell Webb moved up to fifth and sixth in the Southland Conference hammer throw standings after setting personal bests in the event Friday at the Southeastern-Conference Tune-Up.
Nedow, a freshman, threw 180 feet, one inch (54.87m) which set a new high mark for him by over four meters. The Southland Indoor Shot Put Champion, Nedow now ranks fifth in the hammer throw just two weeks away from the Southland Outdoor Championships.
Webb, also a Canadian, set a mark of 178-5 (54.11m) beating his previous high mark of 162-11. Friday’s mark put the sophomore sixth in the Southland as he and Nedow will continue preparation for the conference meet.
On the women’s side, SLU’s Belle Vignes set a personal best in the 5k ending the day on a high note for Southeastern.
“We only contested two events today,” said SLU head track and field coach Corey Mistretta. “So getting the weekend started with 2 big PB’s by Tommy and Terrell in the hammer throw was very exciting. Then, to come back and get another PB by Belle in the women’s 5k giveS us some great momentum going into tomorrow’s competition. It should be a fun day and we are expecting some quality performances from both the women’s and men’s teams.”
The rest of the meet is scheduled for Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. with the men’s 3k steeplechase.
Heat sheets and the event schedule for Saturday are available at the Southeastern Track and Field schedule page at LionSports.Net.
