Matteson’s newest Black-owned business opens following year of COVID shutdowns

MATTESON, Ill. (WLS) — A new restaurant and coffee shop opening in the south suburbs is a welcoming sight following a year of closures and shutdowns due to COVID-19.

Red Star restaurant has teamed up with Sip and Savor Coffee to launch the new spot in Matteson.

The 5,000 square foot space is designed to bring the community together.

“We are not here to just make money. We are here to make a difference,” said Trez Pugh with Sip and Savor Coffee House. “In addition, this is a community feel, a modern-day cheers. This place wraps its arms around you.”

Abbott lifts mask mandate, opens business 100%

LUBBOCK, Texas (KBTX) – Gov. Abbott has announced he is lifting the mask mandate and fully opening businesses.

From a restaurant in Lubbock, Abbott said these changes will go into effect Wednesday, March 10. Any type of business will be able to open at 100 percent capacity, but Abbott said businesses can make the decision to limit capacity or implement safety protocols, like requiring masks.

“Texas is far better positioned now than when I issued my last order in October,” said Abbott.

“People and businesses don’t need the state to tell them how to operate.”

New enrollment window opens for health insurance shoppers

Health insurance shoppers stuck in a bad plan or unable to find coverage have a new option for help.

A sign-up window opened Monday for government insurance markets and runs through May 15 in most states. It’s available for people who don’t have coverage through work, and it is expected to make finding a plan less of a hassle for those who lost a job.
